Talking is something that we have never stopped doing since the first person who learned to utter a syllable. There are uncountable languages that have been used all throughout history. Talking is one of our favorite pass times.
One of our other favorite pass times is watching television. With all the channels we have access to today through cable and satellite we can watch television 24 hours a day nonstop and never have to see the same thing twice.
While we are doing one of our favorite things, watching television, guess what we are watching so much of? Talk Shows, an endless variety of talk shows.
We just can not seem to get enough of them. This could be because the range of host and hostesses available to watch are so numerous. We have women, men, doctors, therapists, comedians, fashion models, sports stars, and who knows who else that are hosting talk shows. These host themselves are one of their appealing factors.
Some of the first really famous talk shows were of course, Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin and
there were a few before then.
They would provide a different monologue and different lineup of guest for each show. Johnny Carson was a never ending source of entertainment when we would do skits with his famous side kick, Ed McMann and when he had to endure the antics of his many animal guests.
Since those earliest talk show days, there has been a branching out of the subject matter and type of guests that are on these shows. The Oprah Winfrey show has become a phenomenon all over the world.
She has had shows filled with fun and shows that have brought attention to some of the uglier sides of life like sexual abuse to children and subjects that many of us battle like depression or being over weight.
Ellen Degeneras was a comedian first and when her sexual preference became know she seemed to disappear for a while. When her talk show aired it was common knowledge by then that she was gay and it seemed not to matter to her audience one bit. She has been totally accepted for who she is and people love her. Her show is still ranked one of the best.
Dr Phil McGraw made his debut on The Oprah show. He was a regular guest for a while and his popularity was so great that he now has his own different kind of talk show.
He gives free council to his guest about a variety problems on the air and this has benefited not only his guest, but many millions of people who watch the show at home.
